Terms of Use

The rules for using our tools, and what our reports do and do not mean.

Last updated: 15 July 2026. By using this site or our tools, you agree to these terms.

1. Who we are

These terms are between you and Comptrusence, based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. If you use our tools on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for that organisation.

2. Your account

  • Give accurate details when you register, and keep your password confidential.
  • You are responsible for activity carried out under your account.
  • Do not share an account, and do not create accounts automatically or in bulk.
  • Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, particularly clause 4.

3. What our tools are

We provide automated, largely passive security testing, an AWS lab verification tool, and educational content. Our scans behave like an ordinary visitor to a website.

4. Authorisation, the important one

Only submit systems you own or are explicitly authorised to test. When you submit a URL, hostname, domain or AWS resource, you are confirming to us that you have that authority.

  • Scanning systems without authorisation may be unlawful, including under the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth) and equivalent state law.
  • Only check email addresses in the breach checker that you own or are authorised to check. Do not use it to profile other people.
  • You are responsible for the consequences of submitting a target you were not authorised to submit, and you indemnify us against claims arising from it.
  • We log tool usage against accounts and will cooperate with lawful requests about misuse.

5. The AWS Lab Checker

  • The checker makes read-only calls, limited to Head, Get, Describe and List actions. It never creates, modifies or deletes anything in your account.
  • We never ask for, receive, or store your AWS credentials.
  • A pass result means the specific checks we ran succeeded at that moment. It is not a statement that your account is secure or correctly configured overall.
  • You remain responsible for your own AWS costs, including resources you build during a workshop and do not delete afterwards.
  • Because each run consumes real API calls, we apply fair usage limits and may throttle or suspend excessive use.

6. Acceptable use

Do not:

  • Use the tools to attack, overload, disrupt or gain unauthorised access to any system.
  • Attempt to bypass our access controls, rate limits or the login on member tools.
  • Scrape, resell, or redistribute our reports, webinar content or tools without our written permission.
  • Share, download or re-host our webinar videos. Access is for your own use.
  • Use the platform to break any law, or to infringe anyone's rights.

7. What our reports are not

This matters, so we will be direct about it.

  • An automated scan is evidence, not certification. It does not replace a manual penetration test, a formal audit, or professional advice.
  • Findings mapped to the Essential Eight, the Privacy Act, APRA CPS 234 or ISO 27001 support your evidence pack. They are not a certification, an attestation, or a guarantee of compliance, and we are not your auditor.
  • Automated tools produce false positives and can miss issues. A clean report does not mean you have no vulnerabilities.
  • Accessibility results are indicative and are not a legal conformance statement.
  • AI-generated summaries and diagrams are drafting aids and can be wrong. Check them before relying on them.
  • You remain responsible for your own security decisions.

8. Availability

We aim to keep the service running but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error free. We may change, suspend or withdraw features, and we may run maintenance.

9. Intellectual property

The site, our scanning engine, our reports, our branding and our webinar content belong to Comptrusence or our licensors. You may use your own reports freely inside your organisation, including with your auditors and insurers. Everything else stays ours.

Third-party names and logos shown on this site remain the property of their respective owners.

10. Your content

You keep ownership of what you submit. You grant us the limited permission needed to run the check you asked for and to show you the result. We may use aggregated, de-identified data to improve the engine. We will not publish your findings or identify you without your permission.

11. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law, including consumer guarantees that cannot be excluded.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of data, or loss arising from your reliance on an automated result. Where liability cannot be excluded, our liability is limited to resupplying the service or paying the cost of resupply.

12. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why, and forms part of these terms.

13. Changes

We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we will tell account holders. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you agree to the jurisdiction of its courts.
